Top rope climbing

Our Top rope climbing zone offers a range of top rope walls up to 6m tall. Buttresses and overhangs, aretes, slab and corners, combined with a wide range of graded routes means that novice and experienced climbers alike can enjoy the thrills of rock climbing. Our top rope climbing walls offer over 95 sq m of climbing surface with 14 rope lines. The top rope climbing minimum age is 6 but parents must consider if their child is mature enough to undertake this difficult and demanding sport.

Training courses and private tuition are available to teach the basics of indoor rock climbing. For further details of training courses, please click here

Supervised top rope taster sessions last 60 minutes and start at a time to suit you. Each session costs 60 per group of 6 climbers. These sessions are intended to give a flavour of conventional roped climbing and are ideal for novices. Safety equipment is provided, climbing shoes can be rented if required.

Open top rope sessions are suitable for experienced climbers. Most sessions are suitable for all ages, but Thursday evenings are reserved for adults only.

Each open top rope session costs 7 for a registered climber. Daily registration costs 1 or 10 for a year. Adults can download the registration form beforehand
here. Competent climbers aged 15 and over can climb unsupervised, but we need to see a parent sign their consent so the form is not available on-line.

All climbers wishing to climb during open sessions must demonstrate their basic competence before climbing independently. Safety equipment and climbing shoes may be rented if required

The Training Zone, consisting of 3 rows of Campus rungs, a mean set of slopers, some relatively friendly jugs and a positively evil set of pull-up bars complement our conventional climbing facilities - why not get your training off to a great start!
